Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is a way of giving radiotherapy to precisely target certain cancers and has been available in the West Midlands for a number of years.

SABR is one of our key priorities for our 2026-27 work plan

All of our trusts offer lung SABR, but activity levels are quite variable across the West Midlands.

During 2026-27, we hope to understand this variation further and look at opportunities for increasing access to lung SABR for patients across the region.

NHS England formally commissioned prostate SABR in July 2026. Our trusts are at different stages in terms of implementation prostate SABR: some already offer this, whilst others will be commencing service provision shortly..

We will be sharing experiences and learning from prostate SABR implementation at our showcase event on Friday 4 December.
