The national radiotherapy patient experience survey took place between 4th-29th September 2023. Nationally, there were 2,506 responses; in the West Midlands we had 214 responses (circa 23% of people who completed their radiotherapy treatment in that time).

Overall, we had excellent results in the West Midlands, often better than the national average.

Our strengths included:

  • The consent process including the chance to discuss questions
  • Information given in person by the radiotherapy staff at different stages of the patient’s journey
  • Facilities within the radiotherapy department
  • Maintaining dignity

Areas for strengthening further included:

  • Information on side effects and late effects of radiotherapy
  • Information on hospital websites

As a result of these survey findings, we secured some funding in late 2023-24 for a project aimed at improving digital information for breast radiotherapy patients. This project is due to complete in Autumn 2024.
